Thank you for your player entry for this weekend’s Claret Tour Deer Island CC 36 Hole Challenge Tournament in Tavares. This is our first season visiting this exciting new venue and we hope you all enjoy the opportunity to play there with us. The venue location and details are available by clicking HERE  

We are delighted to attach Day 1 tee times, pairings, player tee box yardages and player flight groups. First tee time tomorrow will be 10.40 am and groups will depart at 8-minute intervals. We ask that all players are punctual and make their way to the tee at least 10 minutes before play for player introductions and a short local rule briefing. We will provide bottled water on the 1st tee only. Please note water is for players only. Please bring additional water, energy drinks and snacks and remain hydrated at all times during the afternoon. Please note the current forecast for Saturday is 65*, a little bit cooler than we have experienced so far but great for enjoying golf, be prepared and dress accordingly!

This is a 36-hole stroke play event ranked by iWanamaker Rankings and Junior Golf Scoreboard.. This tournament also carries the added benefit to several of our lowest scoring, current annual membership players, with the opportunity to receive an FJT (Florida Junior Tour) STEP Exemption Award. IMPORTANT NOTE: Please note that we are unable to award FJT STEP Exemption Awards to any player who is NOT a current Annual Membership player prior to this tournament beginning. If you are not currently a Membership player and you wish to be considered for FJT STEP Exemption win awards at any of our tournaments, please ensure you enroll in our annual membership plan before tournament begins. This weekend we will award STEP awards, to players who meet the qualifying requirements set, in our BOYS 16+ Flight, our GIRLS 13+ Flight and the lowest scoring BOYS 13/15 player. If you need clarification on eligibility please ask a member of staff prior to play.

On arrival tomorrow please check in with Fiona at our Player Registration Area which will be situated by the putting are/first tee. Registration will be open from 9.00 am. It is essential that we have a contact number for every player out on the course for safety reasons, and in the event, we need to message/advise of any incoming weather issues that may force you to take temporary shelter. At registration Fiona will confirm your tee time and on course contact info, issue you with a rules sheet and then direct you to the area where you can collect range balls and your golf cart. Under no circumstances should you take a golf cart until you have checked in and been instructed to do so by Fiona. Golf cart rentals at this venue are included in the entry fee for ALL players. Deer Island CC is a cart only venue and venue management have requested that ALL players use them without exception. Golf cart may be driven by any player aged 16 and over who holds a driver’s license. If you do not qualify to drive cart may be driven by any accompanying parent/adult/license holder.

Caddies are permitted for this event only for players aged 15 and under. Electronic devices which assist with yardages are also permitted for this event. No caddies allowed for any 16+ player and strictly no coaching of players during tournaments. Caddies, please remember you are there to provide caddie advice and assistance during tournaments, not swing coach advice as this can frustrate other players and hold up play!

IMPORTANT- Official tournament scoring for all of our events is only accepted by using the CJGT golf online scoring app. If you are attending your first tournament with us please download the app by searching your app store for CJGT and register in your junior player’s name only. If you are a parent completing the registration for your junior NEVER register in your own name or as a parent/spectator as this will exclude you, and your junior golfer, from accessing the scoring page. The app is free to use for players. You can then search for the event. In the event you will see that all players are already pre-loaded in tee time format. The app is very easy to use and if you do need any assistance, please speak with a member of staff in advance of play tomorrow. Please note that the use of the iWanamaker scoring app is NOT optional for this tournament. It is a requirement that ALL player scores are loaded into the app following each hole played. Please remember that recording and maintaining your score is always YOUR responsibility. If another member of the group you are playing with agrees to submit group scores into the app that is acceptable however, it is still YOUR responsibility to check these scores are input correctly with him/her BEFORE they are finalized after the round is completed. Often the fastest way to check is to ensure you have your own handwritten copy kept on a paper scorecard as a back-up.

We will be operating a nearest-the-pin competition tomorrow and on Sunday (sponsored by Edwin Watts Golf) for all players with a sponsor’s prize of a gift card for the winner. We will advise which hole will be used tomorrow for this competition.

All players have been grouped into age-based flights shown below and players will play from appropriate age-based yardages. On Sunday afternoon a Claret Junior Tour winner’s medal will be presented to the lowest scoring player in each flight and FJT STEP awards where applicable. These presentations will be held at a convenient area close to the finishing hole or clubhouse area.  If you are able to, please stay and show good golf sportsmanship and support all of the prize winners at the presentation awards. If necessary extra hole play-offs will be used to decide a flight winner and the number of holes and location will be advised prior to the play-off commencing. If after the agreed number has been reached, and if players are still tied, the winning medalist will be decided by a chip-off or putt-off (playoff final decider) at an agreed green side area.

Please be advised that we set player yardages based on player age. On some occasions we are asked by player/parent or coach to INCREASE a player’s total yardage. We fully understand that some players, based on their current stage of development, may wish to play from further back and we are happy to support these requests as long as they are made prior to arrival on the first tee. All requests should be made to staff at check-in stage or earlier. Requests must be made by either Player, Parent or Coach. Under no circumstances will we consider player requests to play shorter yardages than those we have set.
