When Fiona and I began The Claret Junior Tour, still known by many of you as The Claret Jug Tour, we did so with a list of priorities that were of great importance to us. There were many of them but the following were those we agreed we would not compromise on.

  • We will operate in a professional manner at all times and be known as a family friendly tour that cares.
  • We will always strive to play great venues across Central Florida, those that would be fun and challenging for juniors to play.
  • We will welcome ALL juniors of ALL abilities to play junior tournament golf with us.
  • We will recognize and, where possible, assist and reward those juniors who lead by example in character, integrity, behavior and etiquette.
  • We will make every effort to make ranked junior tournament golf “family-affordable” and accessible to ALL junior golfers who WANT to develop and compete.

As we head into our 5th year of hosting tournaments, and our own 6th year living in Florida since leaving Scotland, those priorities remain as important to us today as they did when we hosted our first tournament!

2023 has been another good and interesting year so far, it’s still a long way from being finished for us with a Claret Jug Championship Tournament still to come, another visit to Candler Hills CC in Ocala and of course THIS FundRaiser that I’m telling you all about right now!  So far though in 2023, we have played 38 days of junior tournament golf, both 18 and 36-hole tournaments, we’ve visited 16 great Central Florida venues to play and along the way welcomed over 1300 player entries in total to those tournaments!

We’ve awarded 112 low scorer medal awards to 54 juniors ranging in age from 8 to 17 and we have watched numerous young talented players consistently improve and develop in the sport we all love to watch and play. Even more important than that, to us, we have watched so many of them develop in confidence and character too. Golf really does instill some great qualities in our youth, qualities they will undoubtedly benefit from as they make their way in life. To name just a few, these include Humility, Honesty, Respect and Integrity. We hope you agree with us that these are all great traits for our youngsters to be practicing and learning as they grow.

If you already know who we are you may know that one other thing that makes us unique from EVERY other junior tour out there is the awarding of Annual Scholarship Awards to our hardest working, most committed and most deserving junior players. In 2023 we awarded 8 of our regular playing juniors, boys and girls, aged from 10 to 16 with these awards. Each award made gives the recipient FREE tournament golf for a year. Every time we play and at every venue we visit these juniors will play FREE. All of their golf tournament costs are either covered by the tour or by a donating sponsor. Check out below our current 8 golfers who received scholarship awards this year, our Claret Tour “Class of ’23” have been a credit to our tour, themselves and their families. They have represented us magnificently with their exceptional etiquette, leadership and not forgetting, some great tournament golf too!

So why do we have a FUNdraiser each year? Well, we DO want to continue operating the way we do now and to do so means we will always NEED additional support and help. We are very fortunate this year to have the support and sponsorship of great business friends, Tony Viero, at Phillips Toyota in Leesburg and Todd and Melissa Coon, owners of TCL-Tri County Landscapes and DeSantis AC in The Villages who provide annual support towards our tour’s operating costs. To both we are forever thankful as without their backing we would not be where we are today! In addition we have previously managed to secure the help of a few local business and personal sponsors for our scholarship players and we hope we can do so again in 2024, and along the way, add a few more to help us help more juniors to develop in 2024.

We hope you can make it along on the 30th December? If not, then perhaps you would consider making a donation towards our scholarship awards or if you are a business owner you might even consider funding, or part funding, one of our scholarship players in 2024? Please reach out if you have any questions on that and we would be happy to chat about the benefits you can expect for your business from us, in return for supporting our junior golfers. You can click on the CJ Fundraiser flyer link shown below for a copy of our leaflet for more details of the event itself. Please pass it on your friends and family too. On the day itself we are hoping for 25 teams to play. Each team can be made up as you wish with one condition only, that each team MUST contain at least one junior golfer in it!
