November 2019 Tournament Results
Saturday, November 23rd, Continental Country Club in Wildwood was the venue for another exciting Highlander Junior Tour Event.
Following our earlier successful launch event at the same venue, we returned to CCC as feedback received from both players and spectators was extremely positive. Today we were treated to some fine golf from our expanded field of junior players who had fun and competed well together for the individual awards up for grabs in each of the three age and ability flights we had created.
As a Scot from The Home of Golf with a passion for golf history I was delighted to announce our flights today and going forward would be named after three of the biggest historic influencers in the game that we play today. Old Tom Morris, Young Tommy Morris, and Bobby Jones.
Our shotgun start format ran smoothly on the day and helped to ensure our field finished in good time for the prizegiving awards although the end of any competition involving excited junior players keen to talk about their best, and sometimes worst shot of the day can become a little frantic as we do ask them to ensure they follow the strict rules of golf and submit their completed, signed and verified scorecards. Having completed the task and posted the scores for all to view our winners’ medals were duly presented to each player achieving the best score in each flight.
Our youngest junior players today competed in the Bobby Jones flight and with a score of 87 our congratulations go to a young lad and a fine player who also happens to share the iconic legend’s famous name….Bobby (Jones) Potash.
Next up and playing in our Young Tommy Morris flight we had witnessed a real battle for honors throughout the day between Trace Kirkland and Tripp Watkins. When the dust settled only two-strokes were the margin between them with Tripp Watkins taking the medal on this occasion. Congratulations Tripp and Trace for creating a great competition for us all to watch. We look forward to watching this one develop in future events.
Last but certainly not least our most experienced junior players were enjoying the challenges that were thrown at them by a course in great condition and some prevailing winds making really low scoring difficult from the longer tees. Finishing in 1st place today with a 78 and our gold medalist for the day was Jack Panigoni. Congratulations to Jack who played some fine golf today. A special mention also in this flight to Nicky Riscica who finished only 3 back with an 81. Well played gentlemen!
Thank you to everyone for attending this event, to the players well done for playing the game competitively and in the true spirit of our great game. To our spectators as always thank you for supporting our efforts to keep bringing competitive and affordable golf for our juniors to play and improve their knowledge and understanding of the game. Finally, thank you to Steve Wresh and everyone at Continental Country Club for hosting our events and sharing our passion for providing junior golf in our area.
