Good afternoon, everyone.
We do hope are very looking forward to another great day of junior golf on Saturday at Eagle Ridge GC in Summerfield.
Below this message you will find individual tee times, pairings, yardages and flight info for this competition.
We will commence play at 12.00 pm on number 1 of The Champions Course and our back 9 tomorrow will be played over The Memorial Course.
It is important that all players check in on arrival at our Golfer Registration Desk which will, for this event only NOT be manned by Fiona, but instead by some familiar faces who are no doubt already known to those of you who play regularly with us! Registration will open from 10.30am and it’s important that we know you have arrived with us. If any tee time changes are necessary, we will communicate them to you at this stage and range tokens for warm up will also be issued to all players at check-in.
PLEASE NOTE: It’s also very important to check that we have the correct phone number on file for you in the event that we need to contact you while on course with a weather text message or relay any important info to you. We are now in the period where the conditions are most changeable and should we need to call a halt to play for inclement weather conditions, and player safety, we need to be able to contact you quickly.
Saturday’s event is The Coach Grumpy Junior Tournament 2022! This one MAY feel a little different to our other tournaments and that’s really only because you can expect to see some personnel changes but regardless of that this is still very much a GJGR ranked junior tournament competition with a great field of talented junior players taking part.
In our absence, Fiona and I will be 4000 miles away in Scotland, and at the helm of The Claret Junior Tour ship for one day only is our great friend Greg Curtis, also known affectionately to so many of you already, as the one and only Coach Grumpy!
Greg has been a HUGE and passionate supporter of junior golf and the development of kids through our sport for many, many years here in Central Florida. He has worked tirelessly through our school system locally, within The Villages Junior Academy, and alongside us since we began hosting tournaments in 2019. He has become a valued friend and advisor to us and his passion for the game, and his desire to see juniors improve their play and their self-confidence, is well known to many!
At this stage it’s worth mentioning that Greg actually volunteered himself, and his friends, to host this tournament in our absence, SO just in case you thought we were forcing him into it, it WAS all his idea! From our perspective though we don’t believe there is anyone else we would have ever agreed to let host a tournament in our absence other than Coach Grumpy!
As we said earlier there WILL be a few little things that are slightly different. As normal though Player Flights, Scoring via the iWanamaker app etc will all be as normal, and as if one competition isn’t enough on Saturday we will be operating two nearest-the-pin competitions! One is sponsored, as always by Edwin Watts Golf, with a $25 gift card for the winner and on Saturday the final hole (Hole number 18 of Memorial) will be used for this one.. In addition to that Coach Grumpy himself has provided another great prize for Nearest The Pin on the 4th hole (Hole number 4 of Champions) Please note that all reporting of distances by players for both nearest the pin competitions should also be input into the iWanamaker scoring app following play of that hole.
A couple of differences are, as this competition is being hosted by Coach Grumpy, there will be specially prepared medals just for this occasion and one overall lowest scorer on the day, regardless of flight or age, will receive the coveted Coach Grumpy 2022 winners trophy to take home alongside his/her medal.
Carts are available when you arrive for rent via the Pro Shop for all players with a valid driver’s license or parents who are accompanying younger players. Cost is $20 plus tax. Please note at all Claret Junior Tour competitions we are happy for players to use carts either by driving themselves (with a valid driver’s license) OR if with a parent or guardian alongside them. If you prefer to walk you are free to do so but if you choose this option, please remember that it is extremely important every player maintains a good pace of play.
Please note caddies are also permitted at our tour events. Caddies MUST comply with USGA caddie rules and pace of play MUST be observed. If your group falls behind play, we will request you play quicker, following this we will request you play “Ready Golf” in order to keep pace with the group in front. Electronic devices to assist with yardages are also acceptable for use at this competition.
This competition will be ranked by GJGR. (Global Junior Golf Rankings9 and scoring will only be accepted by inputting player scores into our online scoring app which can be downloaded from your online app store by searching for iWanamaker golf. You will find that the player tee times as shown below have been loaded in the app already. Please note that we no longer swap paper scorecards between players however we do strongly suggest that you also keep a paper scorecard record which we will use as a back-up to refer to should any discrepancies or errors be made in the app. If you are using the scoring app for the first time, you will first have to register in the iWanamaker app USING THE PLAYERS NAME. You can then search for Saturday’s competition in the “Search for an Event” area where you will find the full list of players and tee times have been pre-loaded.
Please note that when searching in your phone’s app store for the correct iWanamaker app look for and download the one where the logo looks like this:
Scoring via the app is a simple process but if you do need any assistance with it please ask prior to play and we will be happy to help. Please bear in mind that YOUR score on each hole is ultimately YOUR responsibility even if you are not the person within your group who is inputting it to the app. We always suggest that you double check it has been entered correctly before you finalize it on the final hole. If you do notice ANY discrepancy, please bring it to our attention immediately.
Please make your way to the 1st tee of The Champions Course at least 10 minutes before play where you will receive a short briefing to players on any local rules that may apply to this competition.
Weather text service: Please rest assured player safety is always our priority and if it becomes necessary at any of our tournaments to shelter in place or return to the clubhouse, we will immediately advise you by text. Please ensure you are prepared, as much as possible, for fast-changing weather conditions.
Following play, and as player flights finish, we will compile scores and conduct brief medal presentations. We always try to conduct these presentations as quickly as we can to ensure you are not waiting around too much but we, and the medal winning players, do always appreciate your sportsmanship and support by attending if you possibly can.
If you have any questions and need to contact us urgently, please don’t hesitate to call or text (Greg Curtis) on 207-415-1535
We hope you all have a fantastic day of junior golf on Saturday at Eagle Ridge GC in the inaugural Coach Grumpy 2022!
