What a wonderful welcome we received from Eagle Ridge Golf Club yesterday for our first Highlander Junior Tour event of 2020….and what a setting to play golf ! 36 challenging and rewarding holes and despite how busy all courses are this time of year greens and fairways in great shape. Thank you Dale Smauder and everyone at Eagle Ridge for making us and our Junior players, friends and spectators so welcome yesterday. We will be back soon !

So to the event itself and clearly word is spreading as we welcomed our largest field yet of junior players all looking to develop their game and challenge themselves while having fun and spending valuable quality time with parents, grand parents and friends.

It’s now become our norm to flight our players by age and monitor their scores accordingly and adjusting where necessary as we increase the number of events they play in ..yesterday we had a fairly competitive split in each flight: The Bobby Jones, The Tommy Morris and The Old Tom Morris Flight.

Eagle Ridge, with a strong breeze, defended herself well but there were still some strong scores posted as darkness descended on our final few groups and the excitement built as the players scores began to filter through. Here’s how things finished up :

Bobby Jones Flight:

Our youngest players always provide us with some of the best finishes and this one was no exception…taking the medal yesterday in 1st place was Kale Fashik ..with a huge smile on his face and a great attitude Kale is now a two-time Highlander medal winner ..congratulations Kale for your efforts yesterday.

In runner up spot (but only by 2 strokes behind Kale ) Braxton Williams plays the game the same way..striving to become better while clearly enjoying himself every time he plays competitive golf ..we look forward to seeing these two kids play lots of golf together this year. Our youngest players really are the future of our game and everything we love about it. Regardless of how you all played yesterday …medalist or not, well done to all of you for attending and challenging yourself out there, we’re proud of each and every one of you!

Young Tommy Morris Flight:

Our mid-flight players always battle hard to improve in each competition they play in..yesterday was no exception though one player in particular deserves a special mention for fighting hard in challenging conditions and posting a very impressive winning score – congratulations to Quinton Barnhill for picking up your second win on Highlander Junior Tour.

In the runner up spot yesterday was another of our talented young players who plays regularly with us: AJ Burns. Quinton was difficult to catch yesterday but signs are already good that AJ is one to watch as we expect him to improve even more this year.

All of the competitors we watch in this group are showing signs of becoming very capable young players ..even if yesterday perhaps wasn’t your best day on the golf course as far as scoring goes you have it in you already to improve your game through good practice and challenging yourself through regular competition. We are proud of you all for pushing yourselves to be better.

Old Tom Morris Flight:

Our oldest and some of our most experienced junior players compete in this flight. Each event that we host it becomes more apparent that many of these kids are already experienced junior competition players ..the field continues to get stronger and the overall scoring showed yesterday how strong this group are and the potential they have to develop this year.

Our winner yesterday is no stranger to finishing in top spot. Congratulations Jack Panigoni who posted an exceptional 71 to take the top spot . A brilliant fighting performance in tough conditions from a local player who works as hard as anyone we know to keep improving and as a result gets his rewards.

Our runner up also deserves great credit for posting a 76 ..Jonathan Ring is a previous Highlander Junior Tour winner and played some fine golf yesterday. Another fine young player with a great attitude and whose game is developing really well this year .

So that’s it for event number 1 ..Congratulations to our winners and a huge thank you to all of our players for your efforts and your desire to become better.

A special thank you to Greg Curtis for attending and assisting us yesterday. We are always grateful for your help and wise words and we know you are as passionate as we are about developing our juniors and giving them a love for our wonderful game.

A final thanks again to our sponsor for your support at yesterday’s event. We appreciate your assistance and could not operate without your help:
